Diet and Nutrition as we get older

As we get older our nutritional needs change and we should therefore adjust our diet. Eating properly can help our moods, increase of awareness, and maintain our mental alertness. It can be hard to eat properly when the things we used to like just do not taste as good as they use to. Sometimes it just seems to take a great effort to prepare and cook meals. And the thought of getting out to get our groceries can be monumental.

With that being said, let me give you some incentive. In order to continue our Independence, we must eat properly as this also helps keep our bones and joints functioning properly. Many diseases that hit us in our aging days are there because we have failed to give our bodies what it needs. Our bodies nutritional needs do change as we age. So we must change our diet to accommodate our changing body. Remember, our bodies are a temple so treat it with respect.

The National Institute on Aging has authored a diet and nutrition guide to help us know what changes to make in our diet as our bodies grow older. This guide is called Good Nutrition: It's a Way of Life.
